Balanced power plan affected?
Hey there! I recently bought BatteryBar because it's simply awesome. However, since I got the latest version (even tried the beta, no change), my computer started behaving really weird. I am using the balanced power state and all the options that affect power settings in BatteryBar are disabled.

My computer (ASUS 1215N, Windows 7 Home Premium (legal, all updates installed)) is set to:

NEVER dim/turn off the screen and NEVER go to sleep and NEVER hibernate, DO NOTHING when I close the lid and SLEEP when I press the on/off button on both battery and AC mode.

But recently, I noticed that it, on its own, sets the values of the balanced power state to:

Turn off the display in 5 minutes and turn the computer off in 5 minutes and hibernate in 20 minutes on battery mode, and never turn off the computer but turn off the display in 20 minutes on AC power.

It is very annoying because when I come to my netbook to power it on, it starts "resuming from hibernation", which takes considerably longer than just waking up from sleep.

I tried removing batterybar and for the entire week, the issue did not repeat.

Then I installed battery bar (latest stable version 3.4.4) and it was okay, but now it did it again.

I inspected event logs but they just say:

-------------
The system has resumed from sleep.

Sleep Time: ‎2011‎-‎02‎-‎08T11:19:36.983281700Z
Wake Time: ‎2011‎-‎02‎-‎08T11:39:51.464005200Z

Wake Source: S4 Doze to Hibernate
-------------

Because the wake source was not a device, it was a changed power plan.

Is there something in batterybar that could cause this? Because other than batterybar, I am _not_ running _any_ other program that has anything to do with battery or power schemes. A friend of mine has the same issue with lenovo S12, he is also using battery bar and no other power-related program.

Thanks for your time!

P.S.: This happens with the beta version as well.

I read somewhere on random forums that the solution is to disable the event log service, but then my scheduler doesn't work and my defrag doesn't work and... well the system is crippled.

RE: Balanced power plan affected?
BatteryBar has 2 features that allow you to switch between the power schemes that you have defined. Both are Pro features. There is absolutely no code that modifies the settings of an existing power scheme. Are you sure it's not simply switching from Balanced to Power Saver?

1. If you right-click on BatteryBar, you can switch to an existing power scheme from the menu.

2. In Preferences -> Power Saving you can specify which power scheme should be active while on battery or while plugged in.

Again, neither of these will MODIFY a power scheme.

You can turn on debug logging in BatteryBar so we can monitor if any of those power scheme functions are being used. We'd also want to see if we can tell when the power scheme settings change. For example:

1. Turn off BatteryBar and restart.
2. Confirm the power scheme and settings.
3. Enable BatteryBar and re-confirm. 4.
4. Manually sleep the machine and wake it back up.
5. Re-confirm the settings.
6. Check BatteryBar log.

As I said,

And as an extra proof it's not being switched, the power saver power plan has totally different values than those that appear in the balanced power plan's settings. Technically since you said batterybar does not change power plan data, it is not a batterybar issue.. but just to make sure, I wanna see the logs. How do I enable debug logging ?

Thank for the reply.

I'd like you to follow the six steps I outlined above to see if the power settings are ONLY changed when BatteryBar is running and not when it's not. Again, there's no code in the software to modify values at all, it's all read-only code, so I have no idea what could be happening. Hopefully testing it both with BatteryBar on and off will shed some light on the issue.

Will do. This seems to occur randomly though, so it may be a few days before I post again.

RE: Balanced power plan affected?
Well so far it hasn't happened again; and I have no reason to disbelieve you when you say that there is no code in BatteryBar which would affect my power plan settings.

If something happens, my log is stil running, so I will let you know... but it has been quite a while now and no problems so far.

RE: Balanced power plan affected?
The log maxes out at 6MB. There's a link in the Preferences -> Tools panel to open the folder with the log file so you can make sure that's the case. In other words, feel free to leave the logging running for a while. Keep me posted.
