BatteryBar 3.4.0 beta has been a disaster - teriaki - 05-04-2010 04:33 AM I am such a huge fan of BatteryBar that I purchased Pro when my trial ended. 3.3 stable was running perfectly for me. A couple of the features in the 3.4 beta made me want to upgrade so I did. Ever since then, I can't get any BatteryBar to run. 3.4 worked exactly one time. I was playing around with the Aero settings and it wouldn't save change the preference back at some point. I rebooted my machine and it won't show up on the taskbar. I uninstalled and tried to reinstall. Nothing. Uninstall and install 3.3 -- still nothing. BatteryBar just won't come back up on my machine. Let's please get this fixed because I love me some BatteryBar!! RE: BatteryBar 3.4.0 beta has been a disaster - Chris - 05-04-2010 01:35 PM It sounds like there may be an issue with upgrade installation. First, completely delete C:\Program Files\BatteryBar Second, open up the Registry Editor, do a search for BatteryBar. There is a key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{10149DAF-506B-4488-8376-DF24F0185196} that you can delete. Once that's done, you should be able to reinstall without any problems. RE: BatteryBar 3.4.0 beta has been a disaster - teriaki - 05-04-2010 08:58 PM Thanks for your help. Here's some more information for you: I did what you requested and then tried to install 3.4.0 beta. The installer hangs when it says "Created uninstaller: C:\Program Files\BatteryBar\Uninstall.exe". In addition to it hanging, it also hangs Explorer on my machine. All of my applications work if I alt-tab switch to them, but my taskbar is completely gone and I don't have access to it via ctrl-esc or windows key. I'll try to repeat all of this and use 3.3.4 stable but man am I frustrated. I'm doing this on an Acer Aspire 1410-2990 which is one of the main models that people use BatteryBar on. I suggest you pull 3.3.4 from the site until this is worked out because this is really bad. Some more information: Since my computer was basically unusable after the steps above, I started closing out applications: Firefox and Explorer. When I closed both these applications the installer came back alive eventually Explorer and my taskbar came back too. It prompted me to reboot so I did. When my machine came back up, I still have no BatteryBar. It may not sound like it, but I love this application. I just wish that I'd never switched to 3.4.0 beta. It had some features that really made me want to upgrade. The worst part is, I can't get back to the state I was in before the upgrade. Ever since trying to install 3.4b I can't get BatteryBar to show up. I really need this to work because it's a great utility! RE: BatteryBar 3.4.0 beta has been a disaster - Chris - 05-05-2010 02:11 AM It's definitely an issue with the installer. When it's upgrading, it tries to restart explorer so that it can replace BatteryBar without rebooting. In your case, the installer got hung up waiting for explorer to restart. It still doesn't make sense why after the reboot the toolbar wouldn't show up. Does it show up in the toolbars menu? Perhaps it's just not turning on automatically but you can turn it on manually by right-clicking on the taskbar, going to Toolbars, and choosing BatteryBar. RE: BatteryBar 3.4.0 beta has been a disaster - Guest - 05-05-2010 02:43 AM Alright, there we go Chris. I very rarely use any Toolbars so I didn't even think to go and see if it made it into the menu. I think this is what the bug list looks like for now: Explorer doesn't restart during install. Changing the setting Plugged In -> Change Power Scheme -> Checkbox (on or off) wouldn't allow the option to be saved. When rebooted to try and fix this issue, BatteryBar disappeared from the taskbar. Upgrading from 3.3 to 3.4 caused issues that couldn't be rectified by a reboot or reinstall. The only option was to uninstall including remove the registry key, and reinstall. The reinstall didn't show BatteryBar on the taskbar by default. I think this is all for now. Please let me know if I can help you in any way get these issues corrected. Sorry about the above post. The board logged me out. RE: BatteryBar 3.4.0 beta has been a disaster - Chanz - 05-11-2010 08:17 PM I can confirm that the installer for the beta 3.4.0 hangs at "Created uninstaller: C:\Program Files\BatteryBar\Uninstall.exe" (I just restarted the explorer with the taskmanager (and killed the installer), then I don't remember well, if I needed to reinstall batterybar or just rebooted... RE: BatteryBar 3.4.0 beta has been a disaster - Chris - 05-12-2010 05:35 AM I think that's the point where it should be restarting explorer, so I'll look into that. What OS are you running? RE: BatteryBar 3.4.0 beta has been a disaster - intika - 06-01-2010 05:14 AM i also buy battery pro cose i like the soft but according to u the new beta is a disaster 1. about the vista aero option... batterybar is not reenabling aero when the charger is plugged once again... 2. Battery bar hang up explorer.exe after 10~24h of running the computer become instable and buggy, the cpu is used 50% and large memory is used... the fact is explorer.exe and shell become realy heavy ... seems to be a memory addressing or overflow problem. ... just hope that the final 3.4 or next version will not have the same problem... i unstalled batterybar complitly and back to 3.3.3 --------------------------------------------------------- - Vista Ultimate 32x SP2 - 8 Giga DDr2 Ram (3 Vista + 5 Virtual PAE Disk for swap) - Dual 2 duo core 2.2 --------------------------------------------------------- RE: BatteryBar 3.4.0 beta has been a disaster - Chris - 06-02-2010 10:30 AM (06-01-2010 05:14 AM)intika Wrote: 1. about the vista aero option... batterybar is not reenabling aero when the charger is plugged once again... I reviewed the code and this shouldn't be happening. There is code for reenabling Aero when power is connected. I'll run some more tests to see if I can reproduce the issue. Update: I found the issue and fixed it. This issue will be fixed for the final release. (06-01-2010 05:14 AM)intika Wrote: 2. I run BatteryBar on my laptop and I have never seen this type of issue. Perhaps it's something specific to your laptop. Please go to Preferences, Tools, and click Send Feedback. That will send your log file to me that will show any critical errors that have occurred. Please include your name and email and comments (like "I posted about high CPU usage after 12 hours of use) so I know what to look for. You can also follow steps from the document to log errors and submit them: http://osirisdevelopment.com/wiki/Submit_a_bug_report RE: BatteryBar 3.4.0 beta has been a disaster - intika - 06-14-2010 11:20 PM (06-02-2010 10:30 AM)Chris Wrote:(06-01-2010 05:14 AM)intika Wrote: 1. about the vista aero option... batterybar is not reenabling aero when the charger is plugged once again... ... i'll tray final version if any problem i'll send u the log Thanks |
