RE: BatteryBar 3.5.2 beta - Chris - 05-14-2011 10:37 AM

The reason I stated that is that it's been working fine on x64 systems for quite some time and has been tested on it. I didn't make any changes in the latest beta that should have changed that. Unfortunately, I don't have a x64 system with a battery (it's a desktop), but I should at least be able to test to determine why the toolbar won't load.

I apologize if I sounded a bit condesending early; I just didn't think that issue would be related but now it's becoming clear that only 64-bit users are having the issue.

I promise that over this weekend I will be extensively testing this and I HOPE that I can get this fixed by Monday.

For those of you participating in this beta that do not currently have a Pro license key, please PM or email me for a code. If your currently have a code and would like 1 additional code, the same deal applies. Contact me with name and email address for the key.

Please consider that on my system all other toolbars pointing to a directory (f.e. "Quickstart") were destroyed after installing bb 3.5.2. After de- and reinstalling 3.5.1 they did not appear again, I have to make it by myself. Perhaps this will help you in debugging ;-)

Can some please test the following version:

UPDATE: I've been able to reproduce the issue. I'll provide a different download link later when I have something to test.

Hi Chris. It works!! But it closed explorer and didn't reopen it.
Actually I tried to open it via task manager, but although the process started, the start bar didn't appear and had to kill it and relaunch and it worked.
But maybe it can be somehow connected with my having a limited user account (with previous versions, instead of restarting my explorer, it started admin explorer, so I'm used to kill it and relaunch Big Grin )
But, in the end, everything seems to work fine!!!

Nick

That's interesting. Basically all I did was compile it on a x64 system instead of an x86 system, but the code was the same.

I'm going to go ahead and update the beta release after I double-check the installer code. The installer shouldn't be restarting explorer anymore, I've changed it to request a reboot instead.

Update: It appears this issue only occurs with the Release build and not the debug builds. It may be an optimization thing that's causing the problem.

Just another bug report (it was there also in 3.5.1): the different profile for different power plans doesn't work anymore.
I'm almost sure it worked several version ago (I activated to try it, but since it was almost useless at that time to me, I deactivated).
But now, on my new laptop, it would be quite useful, but it doesn't work anymore (3.5.1 & 3.5.2).
It actually create 3 graphs, but it continues to use only the balanced one and the other two are completely blank for both charging and discharging. This is quite annoying, since "performance" samples are heavily affecting "balanced" statistics...

I'm testing it right now and it's working just fine.

Can you post your BatteryBar.Profiles.xml file (from %APPDATA%\BatteryBar)?

I've narrowed the problem down to compiler optimizations that are occurring with a new in-memory logging class I added in 3.5.2. This error only occurs in optimized code on x64 systems. The error doesn't show up in debug code on x64 or x86 and doesn't show up in optimized code in x64.

Was the debug build suppose to be 3.4.0.2085? That was the version it changed to. The debug installer properly handled explorer.exe it was/appears (to the user) to do the same thing dropbox does when it installs.

Here you go...
It only contains data for balanced.
