Shows 94.7% when fully charged... - jimmyjake - 07-13-2011 02:57 PM Love this utility, but just recently it started behaving badly: even though the battery is fully charged and the "A/C" is showing in the toolbar, as it should, the percent shows as 94.7 on both the pop-up screen and when the icon is clicked. I sent two log files for review but since I've not heard anything and it's still doing the same, I figured I'd try here. I'll unplug the charger and run on the battery for a while, then recharge to see if it'll return to 100%, which it does - and it's observed to go beyond 95, then through to 100, yet once charged, the indicators all say 94.7%! I've uninstalled/re-installed, even trying older versions of the program, and also installed the latest .net thinking that it may be related to that. (Most times in the past when I've had problems it's been a .net issue, usually following windows xp repairs.) I'll try to send a screenshot of the pop-up, but when I wrote this stuff previously last night and tried to attach it, it said the file was too big and then explorer decided it needed to shutdown too! Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance, jimmyjake Dell Latitude d620, XP Pro SP3, Intel T7200(2.0 GHz), 2 GB RAM[attachment=112] Sorry, not sure if the screenshot is big enough so I'll try again here... RE: Shows 94.7% when fully charged... - Chris - 07-14-2011 01:13 AM That's normal. It usually indicates that your battery can no longer hold the same capacity as it used to be able to, but the smart chip hasn't yet adjusted the maximum capacity and battery wear values. Sometime soon you'll see the battery wear value jump up and the maximum capacity will drop to 54.6Wh instead of 57Wh. You can try to force a calibration by running the battery as close to 0% as possible and then recharging. This may damage your battery, so use with caution. RE: Shows 94.7% when fully charged... - jimmyjake - 07-14-2011 09:14 AM Appreciate it, Chris. Glad to know it's nothing serious and I can stop obsessing over it! Don't want to damage the battery, so I'll just try running it way down (but well above the zero level) and see if anything changes... RE: Shows 94.7% when fully charged... - Chris - 07-14-2011 02:38 PM The battery usually won't try to recalibrate itself until it's down to < 5%. It happens around 3% on my Dell. It'll sit at 3% for like 20 minutes, which is an indication that the 3% is wrong and the battery will learn from that. I did personally damage a battery by running it to 0%, but that appears to be because of a cell that went bad. I was doing the calibration because it dropped from 60% to 20% very suddenly, which is a good indication of a bad cell. RE: Shows 94.7% when fully charged... - mpattera - 08-02-2011 07:11 AM I have the same issue, when plugged in and charge is complete windows and other programs (like dell control panel) shows 100% while batterybar v3.5.2 shows exactly 100%-wearlevel. When charging it raises correcly to 100%, then became 91.6% on my laptop (100-8.4 wear level) after the charge completes. The problem is that when charging or discharging it displays (in the second row) the real capacity of the battery, when charged and on ac it shows the design capacity and then the percentage includes the wear level (lower than 100%). I'm not sure but I think this issue came out after the last battery bar update. RE: Shows 94.7% when fully charged... - Chris - 08-04-2011 03:56 AM This weird behavior isn't unheard of in batteries. I personally have tested several batteries that will report 100%, but as soon as you unplug the power cord it'll drop to 94%. That indicates a calibration issue which will eventually self-correct. The data that's reported in the status popup is exactly what the battery reports. All BatteryBar does is check for bad data (like -1 capacity, or rate values that are way out of the range of possible values). If, however, you think this is an issue with BatteryBar, I'll need screenshots of the behavior you mentioned (while charging, discharging, and fully charged) for both the current and a previous version of BatteryBar. What version were you running previously? I can provide a download link to that version. Quote:The data that's reported in the status popup is exactly what the battery reports.Sure, but the smartchip tells you also the percentage or only capacity values? It seems that while charged batterybar shows the design capacity instead of the current maximum capacity and then the percentage is calculated over it. RE: Shows 94.7% when fully charged... - kwapster - 08-05-2011 08:58 AM yeah chris..i can confirm the above. It also prevents the "fully charged" notification from appearing. Issue i non existent in 3.5.1 RE: Shows 94.7% when fully charged... - Chris - 08-05-2011 03:48 PM Thanks for the screenshots on confirmation. I haven't been able to replicate the issue, but I'll review the code and see if I can see why that's happening. RE: Shows 94.7% when fully charged... - kwapster - 08-06-2011 04:45 AM yh chris, 3.5.2 has alot of improvements over 3.5.1. We gonna a new version with the issue fixed :/ |
