Battery Wear Inconsistent
I know that BatteryBar generally only acts as an intermediary--telling me what the battery is telling it. However, I've had a strange experience recently.
Specifically, I've been using my laptop for inflight entertainment (currently at a wrong airport due to a flight diversion). Airports have AC outlets but of course coach class doesn't (American Airlines). Thus, my battery has been "deep discharged" to about 10% several times. The battery's wear was reported as 5.5% initially. Then after one cycle, the wear increased to 13.5%. After a subsequent deep cycle, the wear decreased back to 5.5%. Of note, during the cycle for which 13.5% wear was claimed, the meter got "stuck" on 0:04 / 10% for a while, as if there was some hidden "reserve." That's consistent with the wear being lower than 13.5%, but what's with the weird wear number? |

RE: Battery Wear Inconsistent
That's your battery doing it's calibration thing. The battery wear went up because the battery thought it was able to hold less charge than it was previously, but after discharging again after a full recharge (when it got stuck at 10%) it figured out that it was actually able to hold a bigger charge, so it adjusted the wear back down.
In my experience, this means that at some point in the near future (weeks?), you're battery wear will increase to 13% permanently. |
