Battery Wear
Hi,
i'm an happy user of this nice program. What i want to know is the mechanism with wich the "Battery Wear" is calculated. Is it a statistical or a real value? I'm asking this because my new battery (2 weeks life) is getting 1% of Battery Wear and i need to know if the battery is really damaged or not. Thanks for the kindly support. Francesco |

RE: Battery Wear
See Battery Wear explanation in the wiki. It explains how it's calculated.
Battery Wear has nothing to do with damage. All batteries lose their ability to hold a charge over time, usually one to two years. There's no need to worry until about 50%. I've seen Battery Wear as bad as 80%, which means that the battery only lasts about 20 minutes. |

RE: Battery Wear
Yes i wouldn't want to say "damage" (sorry for my bad english).
My particular problem is that my battery has 2weeks of life with 3 or 4 recharge cycle and i already get 500 mWh of total charge lost. What i was asking is if the value is always correct or not and the wiki (and you) answered it. ![]() Thanks again for the help and for this great software! |

RE: Battery Wear
I also find it a tad confusing. My battery wear seems to fluctuate. It was at over 17% last week, and then it dropped to 16, then 15%. It's now shot back up to 18%, and yet my full battery life time has gone up. Weirdness.

RE: Battery Wear
I've seen mine go down for a short period. Sometimes you can recalibrate your battery by fully discharging it to 0%. You should do that every 1-2 months. After doing that you may see your wear level drop.

After being turned off for almost a month, my laptop was reporting a whooping 17% degradation (a month before that, degradation was just 7%). Thinking that this suddenly increase had something to do with the laptop being turned off for a month, I charged the battery to 100% and then let it discharge to 0% and then i charged it again, now degradation level is 7.5% ![]() any toughts on this weird behavior ?? |

RE: Battery Wear
Not really. Some people recommend that you do a full discharge every 30-50 discharges to recalibrate the battery. The best way to keep your battery as healthy as possible is to make sure that you don't discharge below 30% and to not leave it fully charged for long periods of time. If you plan on using it on external power, try removing your battery with between 40-70% battery remaining (it has to due with the chemical reactions within the battery).

RE: Battery Wear
I would say if you don't need the battery for more than 1-2 days, you should run the battery down to at least 70-80% then remove it from the computer. For longer periods of time you should store it at about 40-50%.
