BBPro on Laptop without permament Internetconnection
Hi,
I tried searching the forum, but didn´t find anything regarding the keyswords interet connection and license server. I often use my Netbook at classes where I either don´t have an internetconnection or I need to go trough a proxy that isn´t available until I log in with the webbrowser. BBPro meanwhile tries to access its licence server and I always get a notice the server could not be found, up to the point that the registration got lost (I suppose because BBPro couldn´t connect n-times to the license server) and I had to reenter it. Is there a workaround for this? No offense, but for a small tool like BBPro, I find the need for a constant license server a bit over the top. Thanks! |

RE: BBPro on Laptop without permament Internetconnection
Set your software firewall to block BB's internet access. Simply create a permanent rule.
I had similar problems with BB's licensing system as long as I allowed its access to WWW. Klaus |

RE: BBPro on Laptop without permament Internetconnection
The system is designed to fail silently unless it gets a response back from the server that there is something wrong with the license. It's possible that the proxy is the issue in that the software thinks there is a connection but gets an invalid response.
If you can, I'd like to do a log capture of what's happening to cause the license to remove itself (it shouldn't do that) so I can fix that issue. You can follow these steps here: http://osirisdevelopment.com/wiki/Submit_a_bug_report The reason for the currently system is that if a user transfers his license from one computer to another, the another computer will eventually recheck the license and see it's been transferred and downgrade automatically to Free. This allows me to provide an option where when a license is activated, if it's already in use, the user just clicks "Transfer this license" and the system removes the old activation. If I remove the license check, then I'd have to remove that feature since it wouldn't be able to automatically remove the other activation (since the other system wouldn't recheck the license). Still, I understand the need to keep things simple for our legit customers. Since it's already possible to just block it with a firewall rule, anyone misusing their license would be able to block that extra check anyway. I could just resort to a blacklist idea where when I find evidence of someone giving out their license I can blacklist it. I'm open to comments. |

RE: BBPro on Laptop without permament Internetconnection
Thank you for getting back to me regarding this.
I´ll look into the link you posted, I hope I can reproduce the license gone missing. |
