BatteryBar Not Showing Up

Question BatteryBar Not Showing Up
Not sure what happened to my computer recently, but I had some issue and I had to do some memory recovery on my laptop. Anyway, when I finally got my OS working again, BatteryBar will not show up at startup. I can right-click on the taskbar and click it under Toolbars but that won't do anything - no process starts up when watching Task Manager and going back to it under the right-click menu on the taskbar shows it is still unchecked. I tried reinstalling it to no avail. I tried installing the beta, but that gets me the "RegisterFrameworkLibrary has stopped working" error. It comes up three time during the install, and even after that it says the install was complete and I need to reboot. When I do so, there is still no BatteryBar and I am in the same position I was in when I started - it's under the Toolbar menu under the taskbar, but does not activate.

I have attached a picture of the information displayed during the install. Maybe that can help someone figure out where it goes wrong and what's up.

Thanks!

RE: BatteryBar Not Showing Up
It sounds to me like you may not have the .NET Framework 2.0 installed properly. There may have been some issues when you did a recovery. Try reinstalling the .NET Framework (any version: 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, 3.5 SP1). After that you'll need to reinstall BatteryBar to properly register it as an available toolbar.

RE: BatteryBar Not Showing Up
It still looks like there is an issue registering the toolbar. You can use the following steps to manually register the toolbar:

  1. Go to Start -> Run...
  2. Paste in the following command:
  3. "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\regasm.exe" "C:\Program Files\BatteryBar\BatteryBar.dll" /codebase
  4. Wait about 10 seconds
  5. Right-click on the taskbar and go to Toolbars
  6. Select BatteryBar from the list

RE: BatteryBar Not Showing Up
When I enter the command in cmd:

Microsoft .NET Assembly Registration Utility has stopped working

that error window pops up and after trying the toolbar>batterybar it still yields no result...

cmd provides the following error:

Unhandled exception:
Cannot print exception string because Exception.ToString<> failed.

RE: BatteryBar Not Showing Up
There is definitely a problem with your .NET Framework. Please follow these steps from Microsoft to reinstall the .NET Framework 2.0 (assuming you are running Windows XP):

I ran into exactly the same problem, and just posted the fix at MyHPMini. It's not necessary to reinstall the .NET framework nor does it help.

Here is the explanation and solution x-posted:

*****

I ran into some problems during installation with the default security settings of the .NET 2.0 installation and a popup saying "RegisterFrameworkLibrary has encountered a problem and needs to close." For all who experience the same, it can be fixed by setting the trust of your Internet zone to full in your local .NET configuration.

Ok, how to do this. You need the .NET Framework 2.0 Configuration tool, or speaking in filenames mscorcfg.msc. That config tool however is not installed per default with .NET 2.0 unlike in the 1.0 an 1.1 versions. You have two choices, either download the .NET 2.0 SDK (some 400MB from Microsoft) or if you have access to a machine where this or VS2005 is installed you can follow this guide to copy the required 5 files to your local machine and register them: http://www.emmet-gray.com/Articles/CodeA...curity.htm

Then it is easy, start the "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Configuration" from within your Administrative Tools, go to "Adjust Zone Security", "Make changes to this computer" and set "Internet" to "Full Trust". Now you can install BatteryBar and afterwards reduce trust to the default level again. Voila.

*****

In summary:
It's a pretty strange error, which is caused by the local machine security settings. The affected laptop is my company machine which has some "corporate settings" from the domain. I however have admin rights, and reinstalled the whole .NET package while trying to fix it, still the error remained. I'm not sure if there's something Chris could do here to fix it from his side as this is a (default) local machine setting. The installer assumed somehow it is in the Internet zone, however it was downloaded and just a local installation.

Anyway, hope that helps one or the other Smile. And great job Chris!

RE: BatteryBar Not Showing Up
I had the problem of BatteryBar not showing up in Toolbars after upgrading to 3.3.3 (never had the problem before).

The solution posted by Mac worked for me (using the .NET configuration tool to firkle with security settings). Thanks Mac!
