Does anyone have any idea how many battery meter programs have been downloaded in 2010 (or any year) for laptops and notebooks? Free and paid are both of interest. I am preparing a research report on this topic and any info would be really, really appreciated.

I think those numbers are going to be really hard to compile. Even I'm not completely sure how many downloads I've had. I recently switched servers, but I can try to estimate the total number of downloads during 2010. However, it's important to take into account that many of the downloads are current users upgrading, so total downloads doesn't necessarily reflect total active users.

Good point. Even a wild guess would help as I have not been able to find anything out about this topic.

According to my server logs, over the past 6 months we've had between 70,000 and 90,000 downloads per month. So that's anywhere between 800k and over 1m downloads per year. That's just for BatteryBar. I know there are a lot of people that use BatteryCare and other battery meters. You'll probably need to check download.com and other download sites that those programs use to try to get an estimate on total # of downloads.

Thanks Chris. That is really helpful. Without telling me any proprietary information could you give me an idea of what percent (or range of percent) of downloads are paid vs. free?
